Our home

Welcome to Miglari, an 18th century traditional Arcadian stone house, lovingly restored to its authentic form using sustainable, local materials, hand-crafted furniture and green energy to breathe it back to life. Our vision is guided by the ancient Greek concept of ‘filoxenia’ – which literally translates to ‘friend to a stranger’ and creates a home from home experience.

Fortunate to be positioned at a 10’ walk away, above the village square, you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere even on the busy festive days and weekends. The old Main House has been sensitively renovated to accommodate four en-suite bedrooms on the upper level and public rooms on the ground floor. It has been complimented by the newer three story Tower, each level accommodating an ensuite room with their own entrance off the stone terrace. Each room offers a unique experience in outlook, colours and design. The simplicity of a representative Arcadian stone house is enhanced with characterful Greek arts and crafts. Great care has been taken to listen to the old house and refrain from adding anything that will take away from the its original character.

All guests can enjoy the comfortable public rooms of the main house. The sitting room, ‘the old farmakio’ takes its name from the old ground floor pharmacy that used to be here. The blue colour is inspired from the paint remnants found on the crumbling walls. It offers a cosy inbuilt ‘divani’ corner for you to relax reading the books provided, enjoy browsing the old maps of Arkadia and playing table games.

Enjoy the stone covered terrace with its cosy sitting area and extensive views to the village and mountains beyond or sit in the garden under the walnut tree and roses.

In the cold autumn and winter nights, for a separate fee, you can even enjoy the Sauna built in the stone outhouse, designed for two people and including a shower and dressing area.

Please note Stemnitsa is a traditional protected settlement and access to the traditional houses is via winding uphill stone paved alleys with limited parking facilities. Access to all our bedrooms is by stairs only and not suitable for very young children or persons with accessibility needs.

Delicious Arcadia

Enjoy your breakfast and coffee in the dining vault housed in the old stone storage vault, the Katoi, standing at 1111 metres above sea level. Our motto ‘local and sustainable’ underlies our choices for our breakfast food served from 8 -11am, using locally sourced products from Arcadia and grown by small producers from the surrounding area. There is a continental buffet with handmade jams , cereals, sourdough and ancient grains breads, organic eggs, local honeys and dairy products from local Arcadian cheeseries. Walnuts dominate the local gardens, and the famous handmade walnut cake. All complimented by an extensive selection of teas and coffees.
